What epithelial modification is abundant in the large intestine?

The large intestine (colon) consists of simple columnar epithelial tissue which forms specific invaginations. The large intestine has deep crypts (intestinal glands), but there are no villi like in small intestine. Those crypts help intestine to completes absorption and retrieves water and sodium from the luminal contents.
